Office use valued at £350

By LUCY MILLARD - 13-/03-1999

A sum of £230 covered the cost of computer and telephone facilities in the Paxton's Court office in the run up to the election and on polling day, the court was told on Wednesday.

Mrs Jones said they had put £350 on the election return because they felt that was a reasonable reflection for the use of the office and facilities.

The monthly rent of the office was £250 but as it was used for other purposes they had felt their share should be £100.

She said a further £20 had been allowed for other utilities and the rest for the use of the computers and telephone calls.

Prosecutor Mr Paul Mann said telephone calls from Paxton's Court alone amounted to more than £1,000. He asked her how much of this would be used for collating information for voter identification.

She said most of it but said she didn't regard it as an election expense.
