Mrs Fiona Jones insisted on Wednesday that the Toyota car hired for her by Newark Constituency Labour party was not red. 

Prosecutor Mr Paul Mann asked her why she had chosen the red car and whether the idea was to raise her profile.

She insisted the car was not red but maroon.
