Part of faction

By LUCY MILLARD - 19-03-1999

The secretary of the Newark branch of the Labour party, Mrs Rose Beadling, became part of the faction making things difficult for Mrs Fiona Jones, it was claimed on Friday.

Mr Des Whicher said Mrs Beadling was closely allied to Mr Dave Barton, Mrs Gill Dawn and Mrs Doreen Westmoreland.

He said that Mrs Beadling's statements and actions at branch meetings had shown she had it in for Mrs Jones.

On one occasion Mrs Jones had sent a letter offering to attend a branch meeting so members could question her about her work.

Mrs Beadling, Mr Whicher said, had only read out half of the letter and ignored the section where Mrs Jones offered to visit the branch.

Prosecutor Mr Paul Mann said: "Wasn't it the case that there were eye-brows raised at anybody who had been prepared to give witness statements and evidence for the prosecution?"
