Archive - Fred Barras, shot dead at 16

Charge had to be murder

By ADVERTISER REPORTER.

Murder was the only charge which could be brought over the death of Fred Barras, according to the Norwich-based Crown Prosecution Service solicitors who prepared the case.

"Because of a number of factors we say there is evidence to show the necessary intent to justify the murder charge," said one, Mr Peter Tidey.

"The three key areas are the distance between the parties when the gun was fired, the number of shots and whether or not anything was said or done by either party."

The prosecution claimed Martin booby-trapped his staircase against intruders by removing the top and bottom three steps.
