Archive - Fred Barras, shot dead at 16

Family's privacy plea

By ADVERTISER REPORTER.

A statement from Barras's parents Fred and Ellen was read to reporters on the court steps.

It said: "We are aware that Fred had failings and would have expected him to be dealt with and punished in the Criminal Justice system. He was not given that chance.

"Fred was fun-loving and always happy with no mean streak.

He was a devoted and loving son and brother.

"Please remember that he was just 16 and the baby of our family.

"We are all devastated by his loss.

"The outcome of this trial cannot bring him back and our loss has torn our lives apart.

"We ask that our wish to grieve in private for Fred is respected."

Martin's family did not attend court.

It is understood that Martin and police had asked them not to.

Norfolk Chief Constable, Ken Williams said: "The most important message to send out today is for me, on behalf of the Norfolk Constabulary, to offer our sympathy to the family and friends of Fred Barras."
