Actress stepping out in style on tour
Tuesday 24th January, 2012 - Capital FM Arena Nottingham
By Dawn Bond
Strictly Come Dancing Live UK Tour
ANITA DOBSON
Former EastEnders actress Anita Dobson will be getting out all those glamorous gowns when she takes part in the Strictly Come Dancing Live UK Tour.
Anita, who took part in the recent series, will perform at the Capital FM Arena Nottingham on January 24 and 25.
She will be joined by McFly hearthrob Harry Judd, former footballer Robbie Savage, ex-Olympic swimmer Mark Foster, property lawyer and entrepreneur Nancy Dell’Olio, actress Chelsee Healey and Australian actor and singer Jason Donovan. The show will be hosted by Kate Thornton and judged by Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, who is also directing the tour for the second time. The audience will be asked to vote for their favourite couple by text. Anita, who is married to Queen guitarist Brian May, is looking forward to rejoining her dancing partner, Robin Windsor. She said: “I have been to Nottingham many times, mainly when I worked at the Playhouse doing repertory plays and look forward to returning. “I had never been in a reality show before and when I was approached by Strictly to do the television series I thought I would give it a go. “Although I have done plays and been in musicals I have never had any formal dance training and thought it would be fun to learn. My best friend encouraged me to do it and it was such an amazing experience.” Anita said it was like living in a bubble as she got to learn lots of dance routines and techniques, wore beautiful gowns and had her hair and make-up done. She said: “I loved my first waltz with Robin and I enjoyed the Argentine Tango and American Smooth, but found the Salsa so difficult. “On the tour I will be dancing with Robin again which is great. I finished the television series doing the Cha Cha Cha with Brendan Cole as Robin was injured. That was the week I was voted off the show.” Anita said she was taken to see a pantomime when she was four by her parents and she enjoyed it so much, she was up dancing in the aisle. She then started performing in plays at school and started watching all the old black and white movies. Anita said she loved her time on EastEnders, even having a hit record in the process, but decided it was time to leave to try other acting jobs. “One of my favourite roles is playing Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly and I did that for a year. I had lots of songs to sing and beautiful costumes and it was such an enjoyable character to play. “I did a play in the West End called Bette And Joan, about Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. “After Strictly I will be recreating the role of Joan and going on tour with the play.” Tickets for the Strictly Come Dancing Tour are available from the arena box office.
