A brass band concert with more than a hint of American music will be performed by the Thoresby Colliery Band.

The concert at the Lindhurst Rooms of Mansfield Civic Centre on Saturday, July 3, at 7pm will feature The Natural State Brass Band from Arkansas — the current North American Brass Band Association Challenge Section Champions.

There will also be performances by guest soloist Douglas Yeo, the principal bass trombonist with the Boston Pops Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Thoresby is the only championship section brass band in Newark and Sherwood.

In January the musicians were awarded the entertainment champions prize at the Butlins National Mineworkers Contest.
