Comic with lots to say
Dave Spikey
Comedian and comedy writer Dave Spikey is never short of words — and so it proved at Newark’s Palace Theatre.
His appearance on Friday was the first date on his Words Don’t Come Easy tour and he admitted he was experimenting a lot with new material.
Experimenting or not, it was good stuff that had the full house at the Palace laughing out loud from start to finish. His routine revolved around the literal use of words in everyday life, such as the Press and music lyrics — and how they are often wrongly used. Appealing to his Newark audience, he added to his routine using amusing stories from last week’s Advertiser — which he described as one of the best local papers he has read, so extra marks gained there. Only one word is needed to describe Dave Spikey’s new tour — hilarious — DS.
