Debut album proves a big hit
Sunday 18th September, 2011
the launch was a special night for both the village Hall and Anna
The rise of Lowdham’s Warthog Promotions continues apace, with the first CD launch at the venue on Sunday (Sept 18).
The CD is Valleys In The Flatlands, by Anna Elias and the Forlorn Hope, and the launch was a special night for both the village Hall and Anna, from Southwell, and her five-piece band.
It was a return visit for them, after their summer date for the launch of Warthog’s arts and culture collaboration, All Together. Valleys In The Flatlands is the band’s first full CD, and from the moment Anna took the mike, the music was a rich blend of haunting, ethereal sounds and earthy rock. In both songs from the new album and her powerful renditions of traditional folk songs, Anna projected to all areas of the audience, her singing complemented by understated yet graceful dance moves. Her writing is clearly inspired by personal experience, such as the love song, If You Were, or Plough Song, which refers to the fields around Southwell. The CD features the Minster Choirboys on Evensong. Anna’s husband, band member Harvey, was a choirboy as a child. With national airplay on BBC Radio 2 by Mike Harding and Aled Jones, this album looks set to go far — FJC.
