Having a love of musicals
Saturday 28th January, 2012 - Theatre Royal, Lincoln
Back To Broadway is the musical of musicals — a new stage production celebrating the best of Broadway and the West End.
On at the Theatre Royal, Lincoln, on Saturday, January 28, it tells the story of a small town girl’s dream to become a Broadway star, mixed with lots of popular musical songs.
The show opened to the public in August and is now on a national tour throughout 2012. Written and co-produced by Gina Price, pictured, who stars in the show, the musical features eight of the UK’s finest singers and dancers from Welsh National Opera, The Twelve Tenors, Beyond The Barricade, and the West End. Gina, 30, said the show had taken her a year to put together and it was evolving all the time. She said: “I wanted to do something a little bit different rather than just presenting a show full of songs from hit musicals. “So I put a story together about Ella who arrives on Broadway and is determined to make it to the top, no matter what it costs. On the way she loses the love of her life but fame seems more important to her.” She said the show was packed with songs from old and new musicals including Fame, Chicago, Phantom Of The Opera, Mamma Mia, West Side Story, Dirty Dancing, Follies, Hairspray, Cats, Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Les Miserables and Grease. Gina started singing professionally from the age of 16, and graduated from The London College of Music and Birmingham School of Acting.
