Laughter line-up of wit and nonsense
Friday 24th September, 2010 - Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham
Rhod Gilbert
A host of top comedy stars will head to Nottingham this autumn with their latest stand-up shows.
The new presenter of television’s The One Show, Jason Manford, will be at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, on September 24 and 25.
Renowned for his cheeky observational humour and loveable, friendly delivery, Jason will entertain fans with stories of the tell-tale signs that he is turning into his dad, including disapproving of skimpy clothes, lying to your children and spending more time in B and Q than HMV. It follows a successful 12 months for the comic that has also seen him enjoy a sell-out tour, a success debut DVD, and appearances on The Royal Variety Performance and Live At The Apollo on BBC One. Jason’s creation, Walk On The Wild Side on BBC1, which combines Jason and friends with wildlife footage, returns for a second series this year. Hot on his heels at the Royal Concert Hall are Ben Miller and Alexander Armstrong, who will perform The Armstrong And Miller Show live on stage on September 28 and 29. With their usual mix of the beautifully observed and the utterly barmy, they will perform a parade of characters using their extensive dressing up box and wig store. They include the street-talking second world war chav pilots, Brabbins and Fyffe, the filthy alter-egos of Flanders And Swann, Jilted Jim, Terry Devlin and Frank Dad. Jimmy Carr returns on October 22 and November 22 with some Laughter Therapy. This ninth solo show will be full of non-stop jokes and banter with his wry look on life. Al Murray, the pub landlord, will present his show, Barrel Of Fun, on October 23. He guarantees to serve up his own special brew of bar room banter. Rhod Gilbert will appear on October 25 with his show, Rhod Gilbert And The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst. The Welsh comedian performed an early version of this act at The Atrium, Newark, as part of his warm-up for the Edinburgh Festival. Rhod Gilbert has performed on The Royal Variety Performance, Live At The Apollo and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. Ross Noble follows the success of last year’s tour with Nonsensory Overload on November 5. He will spin hilarious nonsense into delightful stories and jokes in his own style. Brian Conley will showcase sketches from his television show to present The Best Of Brian Conley on November 9. Combining comedy, dancing and singing, he will bring his special guests, Dangerous Brian, Larry the Loafer, Nick Frisbee and Al Jolson, back to life. Award-winning comedian and host of Never Mind The Buzzcocks Mark Watson takes to the stage on November 18 to give his views on how to make the world a better place. Lee Mack returns to Nottingham on November 26 and 27 with a new show full of high-energy banter, well-crafted gigs and sharp one-liners.
