Singer did it his way
More than 300 people turned up to help pick the winner of this year’s Newark’s Got Talent at the Palace Theatre, Newark, on Sunday night (Nov 6).
Compered by Howard Newport, a total of 14 acts performed, before the judges, musicians Justin Baker-Smith and Lynn Baker, singing teacher Catherine Davy, drama teacher Tom Gribby and singer Susie Charles, whittled them down to three finalists.
Each performed again. The audience then cast their votes while last year’s winner, Melissa Allenby, sang. The winner was Al Cotton, 71, of Long Bennington, who sang Frank Sinatra’s My Way. He received prize money of £300 from organiser Martin Seymour, 21, of Lincoln. The runners-up were street dance trio, AYD, from Newark, who received £100. Third place went to magician Billy Fearon, of Newark, who received £50.
