Peter and Richard’s Dixieland DuoPETER HUDSON
A musician who loves playing jazz can be heard at The Moorings, Newark, regularly.
Peter Hudson, of Newark, who plays the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, is joined by Richard Pustelnick, of Lincoln, on trumpet.
Together they are known as Peter and Richard’s Dixieland Duo and perform a selection of melodic music from the 1920s to the 1940s on alternate Thursdays from 8.30pm.
The mixture of swing and Dixieland jazz includes music by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern and many others.
Peter and Richard formed the duo two years ago but have known each other while playing in palais dance bands on and off for 30 years.
They have also performed at Ann et Vin and The Navigation in Newark.
Peter, 75, was course director of the woodwind instrument-making repair course at Newark and Sherwood College until 1995.
He said: “We class ourselves as the small band with the big sound and our music seems to be popular wherever we go.”
The duo can next be heard at The Moorings a week today.
Peter also runs The Dixielanders Jazz Band who meet on the first Sunday of every month at Newark Working Men’s Club. The next session is on January 6 at 12.15pm.
