Stage and screen star to give lecture
Imelda Staunton
This year’s Wolfit Lecture will be given by actress Imelda Staunton at the Palace Theatre, Newark.

In Conversation With Imelda Staunton will be presented by the Wolfit Endowment Fund on October 10.

Organiser Tina Paris said it was a great honour to have such an accomplished, award-winning actress to present the lecture, held in memory of the late Balderton actor/manager Sir Donald Wolfit.

She said: “Remembered by Nottinghamshire audiences for her thrilling performances as Piaf and Mable in Mack And Mable in the 1980s, Imelda continued her career in theatre, films, television and radio, winning two Olivier awards, a BAFTA, and an OBE.

“Younger audiences will remember her from her contrasting roles as Vera Drake in the film of the same name and Miss Pole on television’s Cranford”

The actress was Dolores Umbridge in the films Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows and Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix.

Her most recent film was A Bunch Of Amateurs, with Burt Reynolds and Sir Derek Jacobi.

Last year she appeared in the West End in the starring role in Entertaining Mr Sloane and she returns to the West End next year, starring with Michael Ball in Sweeney Todd.

The proceeds of the lecture go towards a locally-born drama student embarking on their final year at college or university.

Others who have taken part in the lectures include Sheila Hancock, Timothy West, Honor Blackman, Julian Glover, Ned Sherrin, Desmond Barritt and Ronald Harwood.

Tickets will be available from September 1.
