Storyteller captures children’s imagination
A Bird In Your Ear at the Palace Theatre, Newark, on Friday afternoon (Nov 4) was a beautiful, engaging piece of theatre.
It kept an audience of two-to-ten-year-olds completely captivated. All the children were encouraged to participate, from the youngest to the oldest.
Chip, the storyteller, encouraged the audience to provide story ideas, help with props and go on the stage, all of which the children loved. They were eager to be picked, even my two-year-old daughter was putting her hand up, hoping for her turn. The concept was straightforward, making up and retelling stories. Everything about the show was simple and uncomplicated, even the set, staging and costumes. It was a one-man show and this added to the simplicity. Chip’s enthusiasm was contagious and made for a lively experience but he was always in control of the audience and the proceedings. Everyone enjoyed the show. It was a really enjoyable way for my daughter and myself to spend an hour of our day together — LL.
