String of classy concerts
Sunday 23rd September, 2012 - Various locations
By Dawn Bond
Four classically-trained musicians and highly-skilled performers, who combine virtuosity string quartets with classy vocals and comedic and energetic dance moves, can be seen on the Village Ventures circuit.
Bowjangles will perform at Bottesford Village Hall on Sunday, September 23, at 7.30pm and Rolleston Village Hall on October 11 at 7.30pm.
The show harks back to the good old days of Music Hall variety, when talent was truly multi-dimensional. It includes the group’s take on 2012’s sporting excitement. The Bowlympic Games sees Bowjangles try fencing, rowing, gymnastics, boxing and more while playing, singing and dancing. Champion Maryland fiddler Kate Lissauer leads the six-piece old-time string band, Buffalo Gals, at Caunton’s Dean Hole Community Centre on Friday, September 21, at 7.30pm, and Gunthorpe Village Hall on January 26. They perform music derived from traditional roots music of southern America on fiddle, banjo, guitar, ukulele, bass and stepatune. Senegalese Kora maestro Doudou Cissoko presents Ancient Strings And Fabulous Things when he appears in South Clifton Coronation Hall on Saturday, September 22 at 7.30pm.
