An RAF sergeant based in the Falkland Islands is part of a 30-man team that will attempt to pull a 70-ton Hercules transport aircraft 1,000 metres.
Sergeant Aaron Mckay, 39, of Fernwood, is an information and communications technician.
He and his team hope to raise more than £6,000 for the Royal Air Force Association, a charity that helps Servicemen injured in the line of duty and their families.
The attempt will take place on the Falkland Islands next weekend.
Sergeant McKay said: “The team has been training hard and everyone feels ready for the physical challenge.”
He is appealing for donations from people in the Newark area.
Sergeant McKay is married to Francine, 35, who is also in the RAF, and they have a three-year-old son, Ellis.
He has been in the RAF for 18 years and has served in Germany, Kosovo and Qatar.
Sergeant McKay is on a four-month posting to the Falkland Islands and is due home in March.
