Bigger shop unit planned

Plans to combine three shopping units in St Mark’s Place, Newark, have been resubmitted to Newark and Sherwood District Council.
The units, 18, 19 and 20 (pictured) between New Look and Shoe Zone, would be combined and an extension would be added to create a glazed front.

The application states: “The interconnecting streets that make up the St Mark’s Place precinct have been carefully redeveloped over the years. It is the intention to retain this character and overall design principle.

“The new proposals will make full use of the existing features.

“While some of the retail and shop fronts have been updated, others, including units 18 and 19, require significant improvement to realistically attract the right tenant and project the correct image.

“The shopping precinct is key to the core economy of Newark and its contribution to the community.

“The development would allow a key retail tenant to occupy the new unit.”

The application has been made by CBP Architects on behalf of the Oakgate Group, which owns St Mark’s Place.
