Concern over growth

A proposed largescale development north of Bingham will bring only marginal benefits to the town, a campaign group has claimed.
The Crown Estate plans to build around 1,000 houses, a country park, a lake, and an employment
area north of the rail line.
But the action group, Community Concern, is worried about its impact on Bingham.
Stated benefits include the potential creation of hundreds of new jobs, sites for community and health centres, a primary school if needed, and improvements for pedestrians and cyclists at the railway crossing.
Community Concern spokesman Mr Dennis Briggs said the group welcomed having land for community facilities.
However, they said there was opposition to a health centre on Tythby Road because many people would need transport to reach it. If it was built on the new development, everyone would need transport.
He said: “A country park would be a benefit to the town. However, there would be maintenance costs and council taxpayers are likely to be paying these.”
The group said the proposal would give only marginal benefits to existing residents.
It believes if statistics show there was likely to be an increase in traffic volume then it should not be approved.
