Converters marked
9:00am Sat Oct 27, 2012

Owners of vehicles at risk of catalytic converter theft can have them marked free of charge today.
The Newark Police event will take place at Tanvic Tyres, Appletongate.

Vehicles eligible to be marked are those most at risk — the Ford Ranger, Toyota Hi-Lux, Mitsubishi L200 pick-up trucks, Mitsubishi Shoguns and Mercedes Sprinter vans.

The marking takes about 15 minutes.

Having the catalytic converter uniquely marked makes it less appealing to thieves who will be less likely to be able to sell it on for scrap as it can be easily identified if recovered.

Catalytic converters contain small amounts of precious metal.

Sergeant Simon Brooks, of Newark Police, said: “We are grateful for the commitment to crime prevention shown by Tanvic in continuing to offer this service free of charge.”
