A credit union service is up and running in Newark town centre, Hawtonville and Ollerton.
Nottingham Credit Union (NCU) is working with Newark and Sherwood Council and Newark and Sherwood Homes to provide safe and fair borrowing services.
Credit unions are not-for-profit organisations that can provide loans and other financial services at lower interest rates than banks. All NCU’s directors are volunteers.
It offers loans to people who can prove they can afford to pay them back and are honest about their financial situation.
People can join the credit union at the cash offices at Newark Town Hall, Eton Avenue, Newark, or Sycamore Road in Ollerton.
It is not restricted to people who work, but people must show they have enough income to make the repayments.
A savings scheme, current account and pre-paid debit card are also on offer.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with the credit union should email
[email protected] or call 0115 8283121.
