Final approval for road improvements

Final plans for new safety measures on a road in Southwell have been approved.
Work on the scheme for Church Street, which will include double yellow lines, a wider footpath and bollards to slow traffic down, will start in March.
Residents have campaigned for improvements to be made to the road after a series of incidents, including where traffic hit homes.
Mr Mark Bertolini, of Church Street, said he was pleased a scheme had been agreed and work had been scheduled to take place.
He said: “It has been good to work with officers from the county council’s highways department who have really taken into account our concerns, particularly on matters of safety.
“Speeding is an issue so having wider pavements for people to walk on will be very beneficial for the whole community.”
Nottinghamshire county councillor Mr Bruce Laughton worked with residents and county council officers to help tackle the problem.
Mr Laughton said he was pleased for residents that work was going ahead.
He said it had also been agreed that the road would be resurfaced as part of the work to prevent damage to homes, which was being caused by vibrations coming through water pipes that were closer to the surface where parts of the road had sunk.
He said: “It is an extension of the problems we had on Easthorpe. Vibrations go through the pipes in to the houses and it causes cracks in the building.”
The measures are the final stage of plans to improve safety, which have also seen an advisory 20 mph speed limit put in place and signs erected diverting heavy goods vehicles away from Southwell.
