4:42pm Sat Feb 23, 2013

All of Collingham’s retained firefighters are taking part in a charity cycle ride of 80 miles to Skegness Fire Station on May 18.
They will raise money for the Firefighters Charity and Prostate Cancer Awareness.

Each of the 12 firemen will be sponsored individually. Their sponsorship page is http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/collingham15

Those taking part are watch manager Wayne Brooks, crew manager Paul Craven, firefighters Steve Baldwin, Guy Norton, Pete Ward, Patrick Holland, Kevin Mudd, Max Sturman, Paul Housley, Andrew Shaw, Lee Norris and Chris Barber.

They will be joined by watch manager Pete Allen and his crew manager brother Paul Allen and firefighter Ian Holmes, from Newark Fire Station.

The men are preparing with training rides and gym work.

“It will be a tough ride,” said Mr Brooks.

“Only a couple of us are keen cyclists.

“We hope the local community will support us as they always do.”

As well as individual sponsorship, the crew are looking for sponsors from the local business community. Three firms have already pledged to help.
