Ellie Price, Nathan’s girlfriend of 21/2 years, found out about his death through Facebook.
The 19-year-old’s body was found at about 10.40pm on Friday on a path in Beacon Hill Conservation Park, off Beacon Hill Road, Newark, after reports of a fight at a party.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police launched a murder inquiry.
Ellie, 17, of Bailey Road, Newark, said: “Nathan loved a party like any other teenager. He went to a party and he never came back.”
She was speaking at Sherwood Avenue Park where Nathan’s friends have held night-time vigils in his memory.
Sitting by a bench covered in floral tributes, Ellie said: “This park was his favourite place. He used to love hanging around here.
“I expect him to walk across the park and be laughing at all of us.
“I am distraught. I started strong. The first day was just shock. It’s like a bad dream.
“I woke up on Saturday morning with my phone just bleeping continually.
“I never looked at my phone but I did go on Facebook and I saw his brother’s status update and just broke down.
“I ran upstairs and got dressed, got some flowers and took them round to his mum’s.
“He will always be in my heart.”
Nathan and his older brother, Aaron, were Advertiser Children of Courage in 2006.
They were nominated by their mother, Andrea, in the carers’ category for the way they looked after their terminally-ill sister, Jody.
Ellie, who met Nathan, a former Newark High School pupil, through friends, said: “Losing his sister hit him really hard and he always remembered the anniversary of her death.
“If there is any comfort, it is that he is up there with her now. They are together forever.”
Specially-trained police officers are providing support to Nathan’s family at their home on Bowbridge Road, Newark.
There has been tension in Newark since Nathan’s death.
In a statement, Nathan’s mother said: “We are pleased with the progress detectives are making with the investigation into Nathan’s death and
