6:55am Sat Jul 24, 2010

Events will be held at Southwell Golf Club to raise money for Help For Heroes today and tomorrow.
It has been organised by the club’s ladies’ captain, Marj Foster.

An Elvis impersonator will perform at the club house for 120 members and guests tonight, starting at 7.30pm.

Ladies’ Day tomorrow, from 9am, will feature a mixed competition where both men and women play together with a shotgun start.

Club member Mrs Liz Martin said she was keen to support the event because her brother, Warrant Officer Ken Bellringer, was badly injured in Afghanistan.

Warrant Officer Bellringer’s wife, Mrs Christine Bellringer, will attend today.

Mrs Martin said: “I heard about my brother’s accident while at the golf club on November 15, 2009. I had great support from all members who continue to enquire about his progress.

“I spoke to him about the upcoming event and he wanted to attend to offer support for the charity but unfortunately is unable to get into a car yet or to sit in his wheelchair for an extended period.”

The club’s official charity for the year is the National Autistic Society.
