People recovering from strokes are being urged to consider an exercise programme to help them live a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle.
The Strokeability course — a 12-week gentle exercise programme — will be run at Dukeries Leisure Centre, Ollerton.

It includes guidance on relaxation techniques and advice and information about local support services.

The course is organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Primary Care Trust’s stroke services.

The council’s healthy lifestyles officer, Mr Stuart Green, said: “To be eligible for the course you must have had a diagnosis of a stroke and have completed, or be near to the end of, your rehabilitation programme.

“If you are allocated a place on the course you will need to provide some brief medical information so that we can make sure the exercises are suitable for you. We will also ask you about any particular communication and/or mobility issues so that we can best meet your needs.”

Sessions cost £2 per person and will be led by a qualified, experienced leisure instructor.

If there is enough interest, the course will run from October to December.
