An appeal has been made for help to repair or replace a traditional red telephone box given as a present to Newark’s German twin town Emmendingen.
The box was given as a present 25 years ago to mark the first five years’ of friendship between the towns. It has been badly damaged by a tree branch that was brought down in a storm.
The chairman of Newark Twinning Association, Mrs Rita Crowe, said the telephone box had been a popular fixture in Emmendingen and was used regularly.
Mrs Crowe said: “They are very upset in Emmendingen and would really like to replace it.”
She said they were hoping someone would come forward with an offer of parts to repair it or the offer of a telephone box that was no longer needed.
