Around 50 youngsters aged seven and under visited the library to meet Horrid Henry and take part in activities including making masks and door hangers.

There was also a treasure hunt to find Horrid Henry books hidden in the library.

Library manager Mrs Nicola Ellis said: “Horrid Henry is on the television and in a film as well as the books so he is a real celebrity.

“We had a few boys who wanted to hug Horrid Henry. He is very popular, not just with boys but with girls too, and when you can bring the characters to life for them like this it’s great.”

“Events like this show children that libraries aren’t stuffy places and they can have a lot of fun here.”
