Anyone wanting their car washed this Saturday can take it along to Newark Fire Station in return for a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity.
Crews will be washing cars from 10am to 3pm at the Boundary Road station.
A similar event will take place at Bingham Fire Station in June to coincide with Chief Fire Officer Frank Swann’s cycle ride around all 24 stations in the county to raise money for the same charity.
Nationally, the car washes are the biggest fund-raiser of the year for The Fire Fighters Charity and, in Nottinghamshire alone, are expected to raise hundreds of pounds.
The charity, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, helps firefighters and their families back to health after illness or injury. More details are available at www.firefighterscharity.org.uk
Mr Swann said: “As well as being a fun and popular event, the car washes give our fire fighters the opportunity to share important safety messages with members of their community.
“I would like to invite drivers to come along and support the day. Their donations will be much appreciated.”
