Match tribute to football fan

A football match was due to have been played last night in memory of a young Ollerton woman who died in a car crash.
The game between Ollerton Town and a Mansfield Town youth side, at Walesby Lane, Ollerton, was dedicated to Miss Emma Stamp, who died in a car crash at Clipstone on December 14. She was just 23.
Miss Stamp was a keen Mansfield Town supporter and a member of the Ollerton Stags supporters’ club.
The match raised money for the Emma Stamp Charitable Trust Fund, set up by her family after her death.
The fund will raise money for young people’s organisations.
Emma worked for Endeavour in Chesterfield, which supports disabled youngsters.
The chairman of Ollerton Town, Mr John Thompson, said the match could become a yearly fixture.
“The match had already been arranged, but we knew that Emma was a member of the Ollerton supporters’ group and when we heard about what had happened we decided to use this game as a way to raise proceeds for the fund,” he said.
“We have obviously done it at short notice on this occasion, but it could become an annual fixture.
“We rely on the public supporting the football club and this is a way to give something back to the community.”
Miss Stamp’s funeral was on Friday at St Giles’ Church, Ollerton, where the service was led by the Vicar of Ollerton and Boughton, the Rev Richard Goodhand.
Dozens of mourners met outside the church, and Station Road was closed while the funeral cortege progressed through the village.
Some mourners wore Mansfield shirts under their black outfits.
Comments left on the Ollerton Stags message board described it as a “beautiful service for a beautiful girl.”
A minute’s silence was held at the Boxing Day match between Mansfield and York City at Field Mill.
Miss Stamp leaves her parents, Mrs Ann and Mr David Stamp, her brother, Craig, and boyfriend Rikki Johnson.
