11:02am Thu Sep 06, 2012

A teenage boy and four men arrested in connection with crimes against girls from the Newark area have been bailed by police.
The suspects, aged between 17 and 23, were arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of child abduction and sexual activity with children after a series of raids in Leicester.

It is alleged the young girls - three aged 14 and one aged 15 - were assaulted in four separate incidents in July this year.

Those arrested are suspected to have travelled to the Newark area and allegedly took the girls to addresses in Leicestershire, where it is alleged the assaults took place.

After a joint operation carried out by Nottinghamshire Police and Leicestershire Police, the suspects were arrested on suspicion of child abduction, while two of them were also arrested on suspicion of serious sexual assault.

The 17-year-old boy and four men - two aged 18, one aged 20 and one aged 23 - were interviewed by detectives in Nottinghamshire and have been bailed pending further inquiries.
