Five people have been arrested following the death of a man in Newark last night.
A murder investigation is underway after police were called to Beacon Hill Conservation Park on Beacon Hill Road at 10.40pm.
A man's body was found on a path in the park off Jessop Way.
Five people, one aged 27, two aged 18, one aged 17 and the other aged 16, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are in custody. They will be questioned by police today.
Extensive inquiries are being made in the area and cordons are in place. The park is expected to be closed to the public for the rest of the day.
Forensic experts are at the scene and specialist teams are currently searching undergrowth by a derelict cottage on Beacon Hill Road by the Topps Tiles carpark.
Workers there arrived on Saturday morning to find police cordons in place.
The path leading to the conservation park from Jessop Close is also cordoned off and there is a police presence there.
Staff at Travel Wright arrived at work to scene a heavy police presence, including forensic examiners but said they hadn't been told what was happening.
Neighbours reacted with shock.
Ben Watts, who lives on Beacon Hill Road near the search area, which is not the location where the body was found, said: "I went to bed around 12.30 I think and then the police helicopter was up hovering with its searchlight on.
"Aside from a bit of littering we never have any problems here. To hear there has been a murder on my doorstep, I am really, really shocked."
His next door neighbour, Teressa Ivanava said: "After midnight I heard the helicopter. It was there for maybe ten to 15 minutes and there were just police all over the place."
Police are appealing for witnesses or anybody with information about the incident to contact them on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
