Pancake challenge
9:30am Mon Feb 20, 2012

Choristers, clergy and traders will be joining in the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Challenge at Southwell Minster.
Members of the girls’ and boys’ choirs will take part in the competition on Tuesday, with teams from Lowe’s Wong Junior School, The Minster School, the community, and minster and diocesan staff.

They will compete in relay races, pancake-flipping and pancake-wanging events in the nave.

The Dean of Southwell, the Very Rev John Guille, said: “Our first pancake challenge last year was a huge success with everyone, so we are looking forward to this Shrove Tuesday and hope many more will take part.

“The cathedral provides the space for us to have fun and enjoy food and refreshments together, whatever the weather.

“People will also be very welcome to stay for our service of Evensong at 5.45pm which follows the event.”

The challenge will be followed by refreshments, including hot pancakes with various fillings.

Anyone wishing to enter a team should contact the minster office on 01636 812649.

The event is from 3.45pm to 5pm.
