Parish backs idea of solar farm
9:00am Fri Feb 11, 2011

Councillors at Hawton have supported in principle proposals for a solar farm in their parish.
Lincolnshire-based Lark Energy Ltd is planning a solar farm on 40 acres off Cotham Road.

Mrs Jo Wall, land planning manager for Lark Energy, told an informal meeting of the parish council that they have had preliminary talks with planners at Newark and Sherwood District Council.

A solar farm is an array of ground-mounted solar modules that harness electricity from natural daylight. The modules are south facing, generally about 1.8m high and are connected to the National Grid.

Mrs Wall said they had no moving parts and made no noise and, once built, were largely maintenance free.

“A new Government incentive called the Feed-in Tariff means that solar farms in the UK are likely to range between 20 and 40 acres in size with each generating enough annual electricity to supply between 600 and 1,200 homes,” she said.
