More than 1,500 people have signed a petition, which was launched by Safe Roads For Newark, asking for safety improvements at the A46 Farndon roundabout.
The group, which is hoping to get 10,000 signatures, wants to present the appeal to Parliament and meet the Secretary of State for Transport, Mr Patrick McLoughlin.
A total of 46 Newark area businesses have copies of the petition for people to sign.
Mr Doug Goodwin, of the group, said: “We had an amazing response, from large corporations through to local companies.
“There was a high level of interest, especially from people who have been touched by accidents on the roundabout
“A few people were dismissive, but I am convinced there will be latecomers to the party.”
