A search has been launched to find Southwell’s unsung community heroes.

Nominations are being sought for Southwell Civic Awards, organised by the town council. They aim to celebrate the achievements of community volunteers.
Council vice-chairman Mrs Beryl Prentice said Southwell had many hard-working volunteers whose work was not recognised.
She said: “People don’t volunteer for personal gain, they just get personal satisfaction out of doing it. Often they just don’t get recognised so it is nice to be able to say to them that they are doing a super job and thank them in a public way.
“We are looking for unsung heroes who volunteer to help outside their job rather than those people who are paid, even if they do a marvellous job. We are looking for people who go above and beyond their job.”
The awards ceremony will be at The Minster School, on Saturday, March 10.
Nomination forms are available in shops and businesses and also from the town council’s office at the Old Court House, Burgage, and the Tourist Information Centre.
There are no specific categories for the awards but those nominating are asked to write a few sentences about why they feel the person they have chosen deserves to be recognised.
