Solar panels proposed for farm
2:40pm Thu Dec 01, 2011

More than 200 solar panels could be installed at a Halloughton farm.
The proposals for 236 panels have been submitted to Newark and Sherwood District Council on behalf of the owners of Manor Farm, who want to control their energy costs.

The panels would be fitted on 59 stands in seven rows in the corner of a field behind existing farm buildings. It would cover around a quarter of a hectare.

They would be shielded from view by the buildings and an additional hedge would be planted.

The application says: “It will not affect the amenity of residents or users of nearby properties as these are some distance from the proposed site and are screened.

“The project will not be visible from any public highway or footpath. It will save carbon dioxide emissions and improve the economic resilience of the agricultural business.”

The scheme is supported by the If Not Then What? group, founded in support of renewable energy.

Dom Joyce, 18, said: “It is brilliant that people are finally taking the initiative to lower their carbon footprint and we are fully in support of the solar panels.

“However, we see no reason to stop at just solar panels. Renewables work fantastically together. When there is no sun we can use the winds energy and vice versa.

“If we are going to beat the climate crisis, fossil fuel shortages and increasing cost of energy we need to use every form of clean renewable energy we can get our hands on.”
