Support for hunt

Large crowds turned out on Boxing Day morning to support the South Notts Hunt meet on Car Colston village green with the permission of the Commonland Management Committee.
The Master of the Hunt, Mr David Manning, said the event had been tremendously well supported and people had not been deterred by the cold weather.
"There was a huge crowd which was six to ten deep in places," he said. "It was impossible to count how many it was such a good turn out."
About 20 riders and the hounds spent about 45 minutes on the green. Mr Manning said that they usually had about 85 riders but the icy conditions had meant that some had been unable to get their lorries out and some members had been reluctant to risk the treacherous country lanes.
Normally they go on to ride in the Scarrington and Thoroton areas but were unable to this year because of the weather.
The hunt will hold their traditional New Year’s Day meet in Newark Market Place on Friday morning.
The riders and hounds will gather at the Livestock Market carpark on the outskirts of town just after 11am and will then make their way to the Market Place where they are due to arrive at 11.25am.
They will be greeted by the Mayor of Newark, Mrs Rita Crowe, and share a stirrup cup with her.
They are due to spend about half an hour in the Market Place before leaving for the Hawton area at noon.
