Third person charged in connection with murder of Nathan Somers

A man, who was arrested in connection with the death of Nathan Somers in Newark on 31 August 2012, has been charged.

Jemelle Rodney, of Thornville Grove, in Mitcham, Surrey, has this evening (Tuesday 16 October 2012) been charged with murder.

The 27-year-old was arrested alongside an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy following the discovery of Nathan’s body on a path in Beacon Hill Conservation Park, in Beacon Hill Road.

He will stay in police custody until his appearance before Nottingham Magistrates tomorrow (Wednesday 17 October 2012). The other two remain on bail pending further enquiries.

Reuben Edwards, aged 18, of Gardendale Avenue, in Clifton, and a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, were also previously charged with murder.

They remain in custody until their next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court tomorrow.

Nineteen-year-old Nathan, from Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene after reports of a fight at a birthday party.

A Home Office post-mortem examination found that he died of a stab wound.
