Town set to blaze a trail

Southwell could be among the first towns in the country to adopt a policy on renewable energy developments.
The town council’s planning committee is considering creating a policy that would outline its approach to applications for renewable energy projects such as solar panels and wind turbines.
It is believed the council could be among the first in the country to adopt such a policy.
The policy was suggested by Mr Roger Dobson, who said he wanted something councillors could refer to in the wake of discussions about wind turbines at Nottingham Trent University’s Brackenhurst campus.
Mr Dobson said: “We are in a new council and, as renewable energy schemes like the wind turbine look to come up more and more, I think we should have a policy.”
