Youngsters find out about firefighting
10:00am Thu Mar 14, 2013

A crew from Southwell Fire Station took along a fire engine to Prebend Preschool, Southwell, as part of a topic on People Who Help Us.

Firefighters, including John Clark — pictured with, left, Ollie Wagstaff, 4, and George Taylor, 3, — spent 90 minutes showing youngsters the equipment on the engine, letting them sit inside, sounding its sirens and using the hoses.

Afterwards they read a story about keeping safe and shared snacktime with the children who had made fire engine shortbread.

Manager Mrs Jeannine Evison said the fire station was very supportive of the preschool and made a visit each year.

She said: “The children love it when they bring the fire engine along and it was nice that they were able to sit down with the firemen at the end and say thank you.”
