RHP Social Reserves are edging nearer to silverware in the Notts Junior Cup.
On Sunday they take on Top Valley United at Elm Avenue in the quarter-final.
They have already come through three rounds after being given a bye in the first. They then beat Premiere Travel 2-0 in the second round before a memorable 12-0 pasting of Optima in round three.
The toughest test came in round four, when they edged out FC T’Maypole 3-2 in a closely-fought encounter.
Now Lee Julian’s men face Top Valley, who play their league football in the Notts Sunday Football League Senior One division, for a place in the semi-finals.
Social Reserves will see the game as a huge opportunity, given that Top Valley sit eighth in a league in which Premiere Travel are top.
Julian’s team go into the game in great form as they maintain a league promotion push. They have won all nine of their games in the Newark Alliance First Division and sit third with games in hand.
The quarter-final kicks off at 11am at Elm Avenue, Newark.
The semi-final of the Notts Intermediate Cup between Farndon United and Coddington is also on Sunday.
The Newark Alliance Premier Division rivals were scheduled to play at the weekend but were forced to wait another week by a weather postponement.
It is an 11am kick-off at Marsh Lane, Farndon.
The winners will play either Burton Joyce or Old Mill in the final at Eagle Valley, Arnold, on April 18.
There is cup action in the Newark Alliance this weekend as the latest rounds of the Sam Arnold, Pat Jepson, and President’s cup games take place.
