Bengani and Hope set for glory again at main event
1:01pm Wed Aug 10, 2011
Sunday sees the 30th staging of the biggest event on Newarkâs sporting calendar.
Amid rumours that it may be the last time that the half-marathon takes place, the pre-race predictions are that it may be a repeat of the 2008 event.
The fastest men are likely to be Pumlani Bengani of Salford Harriers, who won in 2008, and Ben Hope of Woodford Green, who was second behind Bengani three years ago.
The Simons Group is the main sponsor this year, and the race organisers have received 887 entries to date, with in excess of 1,000 runners expected once again.
The races will be started by the Mayor of Newark, Bryan Richardson, and all races start half an hour earlier this year.
The wheelchair race starts at 9.50am, the main Newark Half-marathon begins at 10am, and the fun run gets under way at 10.15am.
