Cafferatas of Balderton Working Men’s Club have completed the league and cup double in the Newark and District Double Board Darts League Ladies’ Division after clinching the title in their final match of the season.
Cafferatas, who were runners-up to The Youngers of Newark Working Men’s Club last season, went one better this time. They came into the final match of the season against Railway Club Drunks knowing they needed just a single leg to give them the solitary point they required to clinch the title ahead of the Castle and Falcon Ladies.

Both sides had several chances to win in the opening leg before both teams found themselves on double one. Several players failed to hit the lowest available checkout before Cafferatas’ Chris Henderson held her nerve to deliver the crucial finish which meant the league title, which Cafferatas won in 2007, was back in their hands.

With the destiny of the title decided, The Drunks promptly conceded the match to give Cafferatas a 5-0 victory.

This final match brought the curtain down on the Newark and District Double Board Darts winter season which saw two sides dominating both the ladies and men’s leagues.

Cafferatas’ league and cup double was matched by the Railway Club 45s in the men’s league. The 45s also won the highest score and highest average prizes with Andy Pevler’s two 120s and Paul Gallacher’s 69.10 respectively.

The men’s highest finish was secured with an impressive 108 by Steve Radforth of the Castle and Falcon Arrows, and his side also picked up the John Browne Subsidiary Cup.

The ladies’ individual awards were shared by two sides, with The Youngers duo of Linda Gregory having a highest average of 53.80, while Jane Radforth’s two 100s shared the highest score with Mel Ashmore of the Drunks who also had the highest finish of 66.

Success for the dethroned champions did not stop there, with The Youngers winning the Subsidiary Cup and Gregory winning both the singles title and pairs with Annice Wells.

The men’s awards went to Nev Squires of Horse and Gears Oxo Club and Tim and Phil Tranter of Balderton Cricket Club. The mixed pairs title was won for the third year running by Simon Cobb and Kelly Stevens of Staythorpe Sureshots.
