Captains set sail on year of office

The new Southwell Club captain Richard Childs was joined by ladies’ captain Sheila Pawson and senior captain John Thompson as they held their drive-ins on Sunday.

The occasion was well supported by the club’s members, and the charity flag prizes were won by John Sandells, Bob Stretch and Marion Wraith.

The charities selected this year are for children with special education needs in Nottinghamshire, which are Newark’s Orchard School and Yeoman Park School in Mansfield Woodhouse.

The pairs better-ball stableford which followed produced some excellent scores. The men’s section required a countback to find the winners, with Ewan Watson and Dave Cobb prevailing with 45 points.

Second place went to Dave Archer and Gerry Crerand, with Mat Laws and Terry Mulligan finishing in third spot with 44 points.
