Currie warms to task in tough racing test

Newark racing driver Craig Currie had to contend with the rain and a new circuit in his Renault Clio Cup meeting at Croft at the weekend.
He had never raced at Croft before, even during his days on bikes, but managed to finish in sixth position despite a huge downpour at the start of the qualifying session.

It was his best spot on the grid to date, and he made it up into fifth by the second corner of the race. By the third lap, the cars had gathered into a bunch of about ten, with everyone running into each other and making mistakes.

Currie got through to fourth going into the hairpin, but the two cars in front of him bumped into each other and forced him on to the grass.

His slick tyres didn’t cope well with the mud and grass, and the pack flew past, leaving him in 12th place.
