Farnsfield denied championship

Farnsfield just missed out on being crowned champions of the Bassetlaw League, despite winning their final game of the season.
They went into their match against Retford at Station Lane knowing they had to win, and hoping that Worksop picked up just one point from their game at Anston.

Farnsfield held up their side of the bargain by thrashing Retford by nine wickets, but Worksop also claimed a full 20 points in their game to secure top spot.

Nonetheless, it was an excellent season for Farnsfield who were the only team to come close to Worksop in the final table.

Neil Sharp demolished the Retford batting order on Saturday, claiming five for 59 as they were bowled out for 127, before Mark Hanson (76*) and Michael Bell (42*) knocked off the runs with a minimum of fuss.

In the Second Division, Newark R&M collapsed to defeat to West Indian Cavaliers and finished second from bottom in the table.

Newark looked to have put themselves in control by bowling the Cavaliers out for a modest 115, Anthony Hall taking four for 16, but the batting order subsided to be dismissed for just 94.

Only Danovan Ekstraal offered any resistance with his 57 not out.
