February date for race fans
10:58am Wed Jan 05, 2011
The season’s first Midlands area point-to-point meeting is scheduled to take place at Thorpe Lodge near Newark on Sunday, February 13.
As anticipated, a number of local Midlands stables will be keen to have their horses in good condition for the coming season, and some exciting racing looks to be on the cards.

The Gerald Bailey yard, at Holdenby in Northamptonshire, will have around 20 pointers in their stables.

Owner/rider Richard Hunnisett has three of these and he expects the consistent Denvale, who won four races last season, to be in the winners’ enclosure again.

Hunnisett has also purchased the 12-year-old Van Ness, who will probably be aimed at Hunter Chases. King of Angels is another stable prospect and a newcomer to the yard is Galway Jack, who won a Maiden in Ireland in 2009.
