Fletcher family flourish in final

The mother and daughter partnership of Margaret and Louise Fletcher were in fine form as they triumphed in the Newark and District Double Board Darts League’s ladies’ pairs competition at the Castle and Falcon.
The White Swan Cygnets duo, who reached the final without dropping a leg, were up against three-time winners Linda Gregory and Annice Wells of the Newark Working Men’s Club Youngers, who had also not lost a leg en route to the final.

After several opportunities each, the opening leg was finally secured by Margaret Fletcher’s double two, but the reigning champions levelled in the next when Gregory finished on double ten.

The Fletchers moved to within one leg of victory when Margaret checked out impressively on 59 but, yet again, the tie was all square when Wells sunk double eight after Louise had had three darts at double ten to clinch the crown.

The final leg continued in the same vein, with not much to choose between the pairs in the scoring stakes, and once again it came down to the finishing.

Gregory had first opportunity on 62 but failed to do so, as did Louise who had been left a chance at 50 after her mother’s score of 65.
