Jodie Peacock, 17 (above) won the Nottinghamshire Golf Association Girls’ Stroke Play Championship at Sherwood Forest Golf Club.

Peacock, who took up golf just over five years ago having been inspired by her father, is a member at Rufford Park Golf Club and plays off a handicap of five.

After winning the regional title she is set to compete in the 36-hole East Midlands version of the competition in June.

She said: “This isn’t the first trophy I have won but it is a special one for me because it is the first schools’ competition I have won.

“It is a good feeling to have beaten the best young female golfers in the region.”

- Fernwood’s James Hollis came out on top in the boys’ event defeating Jordan Boulton after both players finished level.

After the two players shot rounds of 73 they took part in a tense sudden-death play-off.

The first hole was halved but Hollis took the title at the second play-off hole. The youngster also took the U16 title from Boulton on a count-back over the back nine.
